Going Bananas--The wonders of Banana

 Pushpa this one's in response to your call.  I was giving up. Thanks to Rani we had another good post. Deepa post something.

 A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class
 about bananas. He said the expression "going bananas" is from the
 effects of bananas on the brain. Read on:

 Never, put your banana in the refrigerator! !!
 This is interesting.
 After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.

 Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose
combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and
 substantial boost of energy.

 Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a
 strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one
 fruit with the world's leading athletes.

 But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can
 also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and
 conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

 Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst
 people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a
 banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein
 that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax,
 improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

 PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains
 regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

 Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of
 hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

 Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in
 potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure.
 So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the
 banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to
 reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

 Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school ( England)
were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at
 breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power.
 Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning
 by making pupils more alert.

 Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help
 restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without
 resorting to laxatives.

 Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a
 banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach
 and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar
 levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

 Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if
 you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

 Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep
 blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

 Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing
 the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find
 it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

 Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

 Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in
 Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like
 chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers
 found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The
 report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need
 to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate
 foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

 Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal
 disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only
 raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases.
 It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the
 lining of the stomach.

 Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling"
 fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of
 expectant mothers.  In Thailand ,  for example, pregnant women eat bananas
 to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

 Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers
 because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

 Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up
 smoking.. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and
 magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of
 nicotine withdrawal..

 Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the
 heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water
 balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby
 reducing our potassium levels.. These can be rebalanced with the help
of a high-potassium banana snack..

 Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine,
 eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by
 strokes by as much as 40%!

 Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to
 kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart,
 with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a
 plaster or surgical tape!

 So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you
 compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the
 carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and
 iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in
 potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time
 to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps
 the doctor away!"

 PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! I
 will add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE
 of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry
 cloth. Amazing fruit !!!

Bitchology

When I stand up for myself and my beliefs, they call me a bitch
When I stand up for those I love, they call me a bitch
When I speak my mind, think my own thoughts or do things my own way, they call me a bitch
Being a bitch means I won't compromise what's in my heart. It means I live my life MY way. It means I won't allow anyone to step on me
When I refuse to tolerate injustice and speak against it, I am defined as a bitch
The same thing happens when I take time for myself instead of being everyone's maid, or when I act a little selfish. It means I have the courage and strength to allow myself to be who I truly am and won't become anyone else's idea of what they think I "should"be
I am outspoken, opinionated and determined. I want what I want and there is nothing wrong with that
So try to stomp on me, try to douse my inner flame, and try to squash every ounce of beauty I hold within me. You won't succeed
And if that makes me a bitch, so be it. I embrace the title and am proud to bear it.
B - babe
I - In
T - Total
C - Control of
H - Herself

B = Beautiful
I = Intelligent
T = Talented
C = Charming
H = Hell of a Woman

B = Beautiful
I = Individual
T = That
C = Can
H = Handle anything

celebration time

Yesterday when all the ladies of our building were in Mrs Dhawan,s house for Baibhav Laxmi Puja we got the news of Mr Dua becoming our CMd,and everyone was very happy....

We were expecting ED,s news also but it seems that we have to wait till monday.....

Today we are going for a lunch party at HHI to celebrate the occasion....but I am missing Mrs. Kamath(she is special)......

For men who would really like to know the value of a woman

Why Women Cry

A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?"

"Because I'm a woman," she told him.

"I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will."

Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?"

"All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry.

Finally he put in a call to God. When God got on the phone, he asked, "God, why do women cry so easily?"

God said:"When I made the woman she had to be special.

I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort.

I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children.

I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and

fatigue without complaining.

I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all  circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly.

I gave her strength to support herfamily through thick and thin.

And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed."

"You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs

her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart - the place where love resides."

Everybody thought that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it but nobody did it.
Finally Everybody blamed somebody for not doing

What a mother should teach her adult son

Tomorrow you may get a working woman, but you should marry her with these facts as well.

Here is a girl, who is as much educated as you are;
Who is earning almost as much as you do or  more;

One, who has dreams and aspirations just as
 you have because she is as human as you are;

One, who has never entered the kitchen in her life just like you or your
Sister haven't, as she was busy in studies and competing in a system
that gives no special concession to girls for their culinary achievements

One, who has lived and loved her parents & brothers & sisters, almost as
much as you do for 20-25 years of her life;

One, who has bravely agreed to leave behind all that, her home, people who love her, to adopt your home, your family, your ways and even your family name

One, who is somehow expected to be a master-chef from day #1, while you sleep oblivious to her predicament in her new circumstances, environment and that kitchen

One, who is expected to make the tea, first thing in the morning and cook
food at the end of the day, even if she is as tired as you are, maybe more,
and yet never ever expected to complain; to be a servant, a cook, a mother,
a wife, even if she doesn't want to; and is learning just like you are as
to what you want from her; and is clumsy and sloppy at times and knows that you won't like it if she is too demanding, or if she learns faster than  you;

One, who has her own set of friends, and that includes boys and even men at her workplace too, those, who she knows from school days and yet is willing to put all that on the back-burners to avoid your irrational jealousy, unnecessary competition and your inherent insecurities;

Yes, she can drink and dance just as well as you can, but won't, simply
      Because you won't like it, even though you say otherwise

One, who can be late from work once in a while when deadlines, just like yours, are to be met;

One, who is doing her level best and wants to make this most important,
relationship in her entire life a grand success, if you just help her some
                           and trust her;

One, who just wants one thing from you, as you are the only one she knows in your entire house - your unstinted support, your unconditional  sharing  of  domestic work, your sensitivities and most importantly - your understanding, or love, if you may call it.

But not many guys understand this......

Please appreciate "HER"

      &      Respect Her.

            I hope you will do....

Weekend Fun : An insight into men and women's nature

Men:

1. All men are extremely busy.
2. Although they are so busy, they still have time for women.
3. Although they have time for women, they don’t really care for them.
4. Although they don’t really care for them, they always have one around.
5. Although they always have one around them, they always try their luck with others.

Women:

1. The most important thing for a woman is financial security.
2. Although this is so important, they still go out and buy expensive clothes and stuff.
3. Although they always buy expensive clothes , they never have something to wear.
4. Although they never have something to wear, they always dress beautifully.
5. Although they always dress beautifully, their clothes are always just “an old rag”.
6. Although their clothes are always “just an old rag”, they still expect you to compliment them.
7. Although they expect you to compliment them, when you do, they don’t believe you

ESSENCE OF GEETHA

WHAT HAPPENED WAS GOOD
WHAT IS HAPPENING IS HAPPENING GOOD
WHAT WILL HAPPEN WILL DEFINITELY BE GOOD
WHAT DID YOU MISS FOR WHICH YOU WEEP?
WHAT DID YOU BRING FOR YOU TO LOSE?
DID YOU CREATE ANY THING FOR YOU TO FORFEIT?
WHATEVER YOU GOT IS FROM "HERE"
WHATEVER YOU GAVE IT IS "HERE"
TODAY WHAT IS YOURS,
YESTERDAY IT WAS NOT YOURS,
TOMORROW IT WILL BELONG TO SOMEBODY ELSE

"CHANGE" IS THE ORDER OF LIFE.

Farewell to the founder Pushpa Kamat

We met on the 30th of November to bid farewell to Pushpa Kamat, first lady of Allbank as Mr.K R Kamat took over as chairman of PNB. The meeting was held at Ira's residence.It was a day when we played slightly different games than we did before which included some dancing. On the whole we had fun with Pushpa shedding tears at having to leave. I tried to cheer her up by singing "For she's a jolly good lady" with everyone clapping to make up for "beats".

Will try to post an article on "gender bias" which was discussed by me in the previous meeting.We meet again on the 18th.

Till then,

Cheers,
Lakshmi
